Real Life Babywise Schedules By Age
I have had a hard time deciding how to organize my Babywise posts to be most helpful. At first I thought I would have a really cool comparison of 3 Babywise babies and how different they each are. Many people tell me my kids have slept well because I am lucky. I have to bite my tongue because I feel like I work so hard at establishing good routines. It’s true Sam was naturally a pleasant baby but he wasn’t very consistent with sleep and kept coming back to 5-6am wakings. He didn’t arrive at a 12 hour night consistently until the 12 week mark, though he would do random 8-10 hour stretches here and there as early as 6 weeks. For that we were thankful, of course! Tom struggled with reflux and we had some really colicky weeks for a while. He didn’t do like Sam and give us any early glimpse of sleeping 8-10 hours. But right at the 12 week mark we dropped the dream feed and he just started sleeping 12 hours and never looked back. I don’t know yet what Henry will be like. But I hoped to demonstrate that there are many ways to make it through to a solid sleep goal, regardless of if you have an “easy” baby or not. Unfortunately, when I cracked open the notebook I realized my records for my first two babies are not complete at all. With Tom I stopped his eat/sleep journal at 4 or 5 weeks old for some reason. He wasn’t anywhere near sleeping through the night but he was being so consistent napping and eating during the day. I guess I just didn’t feel the need to keep writing it all down. I remember he was so much more like clockwork with his eating and napping than Sam was. With Sam I used a nursing app to record feedings the first few weeks. After I quit nursing I just kept on recording things in my phone and I have now lost all that info. My notebook for him only charts 8-11 weeks old. With Henry I plan to be super consistent with the journal and post it here just so someone out there can say–hey here is an example of a real life baby working on Babywise! The trick is there is no perfect day. My notes will show it! But I enjoy the chance to “start over” again with each day or even with each “eat/wake/sleep” cycle and like that I can keep striving for good naps and nights. My personality needed something to strive for most days and Babywise just fit the bill. I will link below for our schedules as we reach each week. Stay tuned for updates as Henry grows!
