If you wear your hair naturally curly or wavy like I do, you may find yourself envying those who can wake up and run a brush through their hair to combat bed head!

I remember back to the days when I straightened my hair and I could really fall asleep on it however I wanted so long as I brushed out the next day.

Now that I don’t brush my hair ever, and especially now that I don’t wash it every day, I need a way to preserve my hair while I sleep.

Here are five tips for sleeping with curly and/or wavy hair:

Pineapple

The curly girl world is full of funny terms! This is just a very loose ponytail at the very top of your head–almost to the forehead! If you have very long hair you may choose to not pull the hair all the way through and instead go with a very loose bun. A loose bun in a scrunchy works best for my hair.

Silk Pillowcase

These feel great to sleep on and help to prevent frizz compared to a cotton pillowcase.

Scarf

Take a cue from the tip above and opt for a silk sleep scarf. There are tons of options available and in the morning you an simply unwrap your head, fluff up your hair and go!

Plop

While many people are going to prefer their hair to be dry before bed, I have become very fond of sleeping in the plop on wash days! The main reason is that I am a night time shower-er. So instead of drying my hair completely, I only dry it some and then I pile damp and product coated hair in a t shirt on top of my head and tie it up to sleep in all night. When I wake up my hair is dry!

Braids/Twists

A loose braid or a twist is another good way to keep curls from frizzing or tangling while sleeping. When you take it out in the morning you may even have a little extra body thanks to the braid, but beware if you have curls at the root (I really don’t) they can get stretched or pulled out in the braid.

These are five great tips for sleeping with curly hair. After you get the hang of some of these tricks maybe you won’t feel as envious of the girls who can hope up and run a brush through their hair!

I know I still do from time to time, but I also love the freedom of waking up, shaking out my waves, and my hair already being ready!
