Babywise With a Three Week Old

Since Henry is officially over a month old I’m ready to post what his sleep was like while he was a three week old, or from week 3 to week 4.

It’s kind of pointless to keep including Sam since I have no Babywise notes for him at this age but I did just so happen to find a picture of them all when they are the same age in the same tub!

The Puj Tub has lasted for three boys and is still going strong. It’s one of my top new baby product recommendations. Henry finally warmed up to bath time and will now lay so content in the warm water….that is until we take him out!

Three weeks is about the earliest Babywise says a baby will begin to merge night feedings from 2 down to 1. So after the dream feed, instead of waking around 1:45/2:00 and again at 4:45/5:00, a 3-6 week old baby may begin to wake once in the night probably around 3:00 am.

We have had a few periods of one night waking before but I think I can just credit that to a super sleepy newborn.

And side note, I strongly recommend utilizing the dream feed! If baby goes to bed at 7:30 and dad handles the 10:30 dream feed, then you can go to bed at 8:00, 9:00…your choice! Sleeping from 8pm until that 3am waking is a pretty good chunk of rest.

Here we go for week three:

Sam

So yeah, no sleep journal.

What I remember from this week–I was struggling with being crazy emotional and was just about to quit nursing. He was doing his overnight snoozing in the Rock N Play beside our bed.

What social media tells me about this week–it snowed (again), I had “cabin fever” and went out to a movie while daddy and Sam hung out, and Sam discovered the play mat.

I have no idea how he was sleeping but I would say he was doing 1 or 2 wakings. He was always great about going right back down. I will never forget his first 8 hour stretch and he is only about 2 weeks from it at this point!!

Tom

Tom Tom with his bright orange hair at 3 weeks old was apparently perfecting the scream 🙂 Social media posts include me searching for sound machine recommendations, ha!

Here is how his 3rd week of sleep looked:

3 weeks: 7:00 bottle then napped 8-9:30, 9:45 bottle then napped 10:30-1:00, 3:45 bottle then napped 1:30-3:45, 5:40 cluster feed, 7:30 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 2:30, 5:30 and we woke him at 7:00.

3 weeks 1 day: 7:15 bottle then napped 8:15-9:15, 10:00 bottle then napped 11:30-1:00, 1:00 bottle then napped 2:00-3:30, 4:00 bottle then cat napped 4:30-5:30, 6:00 cluster feed, 7:30 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 2:00 and then slept til 6:30.

3 weeks 2 days: 6:30 bottle then napped 8:30-10:00, 10:00 bottle then napped 11:30-1:15, 1:15 bottle then napped 2:00-3:30, 4:00 bottle then napped 4:30-6:00, 6:15 cluster feed, 7:30 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 2:15 and 5:15 and I woke him to start the day at 7:30.

3 weeks 3 days: 7:30 bottle then napped 8-9:30, 10:00 bottle then napped 11-12:50, 1:00 bottle then napped 1:30-3:30, 4:00 bottle, 6:00 cluster feed, 7:30 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 2:15 and 5:15 and I woke him at 7:30.

3 weeks 4 days: 7:30 bottle but didn’t nap, 10:15 bottle then napped 11:15-1:15, 1:15 bottle then napped 1:45-4:15, 4:15 bottle, 6:00 cluster feed, 7:30 bottle then bed. He woke to eat at 2:15 and 5:00 then I woke him at 7:00.

3 weeks 5 days: 7:00 bottle then napped 7:45-9:50, 10:00 bottle then napped 11:20-12:55, 1:00 bottle then missed a nap, 4:15 bottle then cat nap, 7:15 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. Woke at 2:15 and 5:50. Since he was so close to 7:00 wake him I offered a paci instead of bottle and he was happy til 6:30 so we started the day then.

3 weeks 6 days: 6:30 bottle then rocky nap 8:00-9:00, 9:45 bottle then napped 10:20-12:30, 1:00 bottle then napped 2:00-4:00, 4:00 bottle then cat nap, 7:15 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 2:15, 4:50 and at 6:30.

Keep in mind that many naps I am waking him up for the next bottle. At night I did not ever wake him..just fed when he woke. He was in his crib at night but most of these naps were rock n play.

Henry

Henry continues to have a mean witching hour in the evenings but I am just thankful it’s not in the middle of the night! He has done really well eating every 3 hours during the day. He naps and sleeps exclusively in his crib unless we are on the go, so I am so happy we don’t have any incline addictions to address down the road!

3 weeks – 7:30 bottle then napped 8:15-10:00, 10:00 bottle then napped 11-12:35, 12:45 bottle then napped 2:00-4:00, 4:00 bottle, 5:45 dream feed, 7:15 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 3:00 then I woke him at 7:00.

3 weeks 1 day: 7:00 bottle then napped 7:45-10:00, 10:00 bottle then napped 10:45-1:00, 1:00 bottle then napped 1:50-4:00, 4:00 bottle then cat nap 4:45-5:45, 6:00 cluster, 7:10 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke to eat at 3:00 and then at 6:30

3 weeks 2 days: 6:45 bottle then napped 8-10, 10:00 bottle then napped 1:45-1, 1:00 bottle then napped 2-4, 4:00 bottle then cat nap, 6:00 cluster feed, 7:05 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. Then he woke to eat at 2:45 and 6:30.

3 weeks 3 days: 6:30 bottle then napped 7:50-9:45, 9:45 bottle then napped 10:30-12:45, 12:50 bottle then napped 1:45-4:00, 4:00 bottle, 5:45 cluster feed, 7:00 bottle then bed, 10:30 dream feed. Woke to eat at 2:40 and slept til 6:30.

3 weeks 4 days: 6:30 bottle then napped 8-10, 10 bottle then napped 10:30-12:50, 1:00 bottle then napped 1:45-4:00, 4:00 bottle then cat nap 4:45-5:15, 5:40 cluster feed, 7:00 bottle then bed, 10:40 dream feed. He woke at 1:45 and 4:45 then I woke him at 7:15.

3 weeks 5 days: 7:15 bottle then napped 8:15-10:10, 10:15 bottle then napped 11-1, 1:00 bottle then napped 1:45-4:00, 4:00 bottle then cat nap, 5:30 cluster, 7:30 bottle the bed, 10:30 dream feed. He woke at 2:30 and 6:15.

Then I didn’t document a day…whoops!

Some of his days during this week were textbook but often times naps were hard to come by. I would say he is about half and half sometimes laying down awake and sleepy and drifting right off verses me holding him about 20 mins and maybe needing to go back in for some paci soothing.

We always have fussy evenings where almost nothing makes him happy for 1-2 hours. Hopefully we grow out of that part soon!

Keep on keeping on, Babywise mamas! Good day, bad day, average day…I think the best thing you can do for you and for baby is to keep up your work towards healthy sleep habits!
