we bought a camper! part three: working a little out of order to make her pretty

My poor little blog has been pretty neglected lately. How has nearly half the month got away from me in the blink of an eye!?

My husband had a trip, it was one of those extra weeks at school (Dr. Seuss–not hating, just busy), we had their big school fundraiser, I got unnecessarily invested in a two night bachelor finale, mortgage rates tanked turning work into crazy town, the time change kicked my butt and hasn’t stopped, there was a run on toilet paper that went over my head…and now here I sit on the eve of Friday the 13th in the midst of a pandemic I’m not quite sure what to think about.

Whew!

Hello to you too, March.

So anyway… the camper! Progress has been slower than I wanted thanks some of that busy stuff, but there has been some improvements worth blogging.

Ideally our project would have gone in this order: seal up outside leaks, replace inside water damage, repaint outside, repaint/decorate inside.

Instead..I jumped right into some of the cosmetic stuff while half the walls are ripped out and while it still leaks.

I wouldn’t recommend going out of order but with Travis gone I had no business tinkering with window seals or replacement walls which need to be cut to size.

Anyway…here is what has happened since my last post mainly over two free evenings after bedtime and some weekend nap times!

The tub is mid-facelift. I used one can of appliance epoxy so far and it clearly needs more but it’s way better than peach!

Just a little work in here really reminded me how much of a difference paint makes:

I brought a bunch of drawers inside so I could work after the kids went to bed. My first choice for the lowers would have been a true black. However, I had quite a bit of this charcoal color leftover from our house trim.

It’s very close to what I had in mind and I love a budget project so it was an easy choice. I’ve only used paint I had on hand so far!

I lined them with some contact paper we already had. I think we found it in the house when we bought it–talk about budget friendly.

They are not attached yet because the included hardware was the wrong length for my drawers but these modern pulls were a steal! I needed 25 and found a 26 pack–I know prices fluctuate on Amazon but mine landed right around $1 each.

Okay now on to some important stuff…we resealed two windows and it went pretty well! We went with a putty tape that was really easy to work with, especially if you put it in freezer for a while before using.

This first picture is prior to removing a window where you can see that there wasn’t a really tight seal between the window and camper.

Of course the putty gets trimmed away but it looks like a better seal to me. Time will tell!

Last but not least we spent a sunny Sunday at the “carwash” with these little helpers.

They did great!!

I don’t see us having any spare time these next few weeks. But when we do the goal is to knock out the other windows that need to be resealed. Hopefully soon after we can paint the outside so it looks better parked in the driveway 🙂
