my “winter woodland” tree

Do you usually do more than one Christmas tree? Are any if them themed?

This was our first year getting two big trees (always have done small tabletop trees for the kids) and I tried my hand at my first themed tree!

I don’t really know what to call it but I was going for snowy, woodsy, old school, pretty….I’m calling it a “winter woodland” look.

Don’t get me wrong, I love and prefer a big hodgepodge tree full of memories with no cohesive theme. It’s what I grew up with and feels homey and happy. But at the same time I’ve always admired very put together trees too.

So this year was the best of both worlds! Here is how my themed tree turned out:

It’s trimmed partially with DIY–dried oranges and magnolia and holly clippings from the yard–and partially Walmart/Hobby Lobby. The collar is from Aldi, which shouldn’t surprise anyone 🙂

It’s a live Douglas Fir that I DIY flocked with a glue, shaving cream, and cornstarch mixture!

I love how it turned out and how budget friendly it was! The dried oranges and magnolia are my favorite features on this tree.

And since I love festive mismatched trees too, I thought I would do a roundup of our trees from each year, starting with this years’ giant tree and going all the way back to our first tree together that was 1/2 it’s height!

These are all live Frasier Firs but there is a variety of shapes for sure. I like how they are all a little different–it’s one of the quirks of live trees and it’s fun hunting for a good one every year.

Merry Christmas everyone!
