I have seriously looked forward to this “Favorite Things” party for months…I bought my gifts this summer…

What’s a “Favorite Things” party, you ask?

I am here to tell you! Finally a blog post not about baby sleep, right?

I am in a “Bunco” group with 11 other girls and, while we love getting together each month, the dice game wasn’t really needed. Since then, we’ve done anything from a night out for Mexican food to Halloween mystery parties to spa days.

Since I was in charge of December I got to host this one. We’d heard about this idea from a member of our group who had played before and just loved it. So we decided to have our Christmas bunco as a gift exchange in the style of “favorite things.”

We set a gift limit at $8 per item and each person set out to find something that they loved and bought 11 of them (or 12 if they wanted to keep one for themselves too).

The beauty of this gift exchange is you could plan it with any number of people and any budget. Just pick the group number and price early so people can start shopping!

With our $8 gift limit it meant everyone was spending about $88– which seemed like a good mid-range amount considering the 11 gifts we’d all end up with.

Everyone came over for a happy hour before to mingle and eat appetizers. I tried my hand at a charcuterie board, thank you Pinterest!

As people arrived with arms overflowing, my sunroom slowly filled to the brim with presents!

Everyone sat around the room while each friend passed out her items and told us a little about what they brought or why it was one of their favorite things. I loved this part!

And let me tell you we tore into those packages like kids on Christmas morning.

We left our “favorite things” super broad but you could also host a party of specifics. Favorite kitchen gadgets, favorite books, favorite cosmetics, favorite snacks….the possibilities are endless!

Several people did 2 or 3 small gifts to make up the $8. I think it was a really good price point to land on but if you had a smaller group to buy for, a higher limit would work well too.

I also wouldn’t mind the challenge of a $5 cap because I like a good bargain hunt 🙂

These are a few of our favorite things:

It was a hit and I know many of us have already been thinking of ideas for next years’ favorite things party. I definitely recommend this party to any friend group with any budget…you will love it!

As a hostess this was such an easy party to give. The last two Christmas buncos I did a cookie decorating party. Not that those weren’t fun 🙂 But this was really relaxing and easy and I think everyone enjoyed the change of pace of just getting to be with friends and share a favorite thing.

I hope everyone is having a great Christmas season! May our “favorite things” give you some gift inspiration!
