apple picking

Have you ever been apple picking?

I love to go do stuff like this with my kids (okay, I also loved it before kids!) so I’m surprised we hadn’t been before.

We just went for the first time last weekend and it was such a nice early fall experience. The rows and rows of different varieties were beautiful and the kids had fun filling their bags up with apples they could pick right from the tree.

We went to Knowlan Family Farm where I learned that, throughout one season, grows almost 30 varieties of apples! I was amazed. They all ripen at different times and the Granny Smith’s weren’t ready yet–bummer to myself and Sam, the sour apple fans.

We came away with mostly Fuji, Cameo, and Mutsu (have never heard of the last two) and the Cameo were delicious.

We definitely made it home with more apples than I would ever buy from the grocery store at once. What to do with all these apples!?

My first thought was apple pie, but my kids reminded me they don’t like apple pie.

It feels like we are in the PICKIEST eating stage right now, but I digress.

I do have plans to try this apple pie-ish crescent roll recipe thinking they may go for those, though. In the meantime we’ve also been eating apples non stop.

But there are still too many so I cut up a few apples to make stamps!

Sam opted to draw a tree first and Tom went more abstract πŸ™‚

So maybe these did not turn out anything like what popped up on Pinterest but the boys seemed to enjoy it. Any chance to get messy!

Pumpkin patches may be the more likely October choice, but apple orchards still have those Granny Smiths that won’t be ready for a few more weeks! We may have to head back just for them.

If you have any other apple ideas, send them our way!

Crockpot applesauce? We’re going Saturday and that’s what the girls are wanting me to make.

Read about Johnny Appleseed and let them guess how many seeds are in an apple and then cut it open and count them

    Muffins, apple cider, apple butter

L and I like dipping our apples in pb!
