A car sickness incident with no supplies for clean up will leave you making plans to stock your vehicle.
We have unfortunately been in this spot recently and there are plenty of other emergencies or mishaps while out and about that made me realize…a car kit was in order!
I was cleaning out the closet for new baby’s room last week and found one of these three drawer organizers that seemed perfect for the job!
My favorite thing about this little project was that I didn’t even buy anything. All the items were already in the house. I do plan to pick up one of these small packages of Clorox wipes though.
So what all made the cut for our emergency car kit?
A full change of clothes for each kid and a light blanket added in for good measure. It can function as an actual blanket, something to lay baby on for car changing, and even something to use between car seat and child when said car seat has been….compromised.
Car seats and car sickness do not mix!
Next I did diapers/pull ups, wipes, grocery bags, napkins, and hand sanitizer.
I almost thought I’d have a few month break from this stage but I think not. Our 2.5 year old has very little interest and new baby will be here in 8 weeks.
Looks like we’ll just keep rolling with at least one kid in diapers for a few more years.
Lastly I have an odds and ends drawer for snacks, first aid, a lighter (you never know?), and meds for motion sickness as well as an alertness aid.
Full disclosure–I had no idea we owned these medications and haven’t tried either. I did a little Marie Kondo action to our medicine cabinet and found them…But they seem perfect for a car emergency kit.
I also have this super handy emergency flashlight that should have been in the car all along. It has a whistle, red flashing lights, a glass breaker, a way to cut off your seat belt, etc.
So with a 15 minute sweep of the house, adding items here and there, I now feel like my car is pretty prepared for anything that comes our way! Overkill? Maybe. But as a soon to be mom to three I am racking my brain for anything and everything to make my life easier 🙂
